Re: Stewart Warner tachometer kit for classic Mini & Cooper S C-STR1058 (NLC)

Still available, now on auction starting at £75. It's a really nice thing and a real shame for it to just sit in a box. It fits any standard 85mm housing.

Re: Cam Belt age

I had a quick look at xpart's website ( as I hadn't heard of them ) and they appear to have originated as MG Rover's parts division. I would imagine they simply source parts rather than actually manufacture. You could try contacting them with any details on the belt as they should be able to check m...

Also manufacturers have to support for a certain number of years (7, I think) after final production. Does the belt or box have any codes? ...

Re: VHPD Engine inspection

That's what I figured, ie. that your pulleys are right for the additional 190 slot but it's the camshaft which is rotated to the wrong position. But that doesn't fit with the picture posted by deggles of standard timing, since the roll pin is in the 190 slot on the pulley...or am I being thick? Btw,...

Re: VHPD Engine inspection

Very good point this, it seems even some 'experts' don't know. My car at some point got reverted to standard timing which I only realised at the last cambelt change (courtesy of the eagle-eyed Byron, our friendly neighbourhood Lotus master tech :geek: ) Standard timing shown in the photo for compar...

As far as I'm aware, green is chromate-free. The lower toxicity is more environmentally friendly.

Re: VHPD Engine inspection

The alternative timing mark came to mind when I posted earlier but, as I haven't yet fitted the 190 pulley I acquired recently I didn't want to give out inaccurate info. However this thread has (a) reminded me to fit it and (b) been hugely useful in fitting it correctly!
